Bunga Pink Stock Astral

Pink Double Bloom Stock Astral

Wow, so you managed to breed the plant to get a homozygous recessive for that gene. Cool.

TukangKebun berkata...

Sean L~ Did not do anything at all. I guess its natural since its all depending which alelle did the flower get each from its parent.

You must be very lucky then, getting the 25%. I guess if you go on to plant just doubles, then it will be 100% from then on. Boleh buat koleksi benih purebred doubles

Sean L~ Wiki info says that double bloom are apparently sterile. I don't get seed pods from them so far the double ones. Yet the single blooms form so many seeds pods after they bloom.

So the fully double ones have no functional stamen and pistil, only the eversporting and heterozygous singles that can produce doubles - Matthiolas are interesting indeed.

Yes Matthiolas are very interesting. I am not very familiar with plant biology. But it must be a form of defense mechanism to remain single petal in Matthiolas evolution DNA. Probably more benefit with single rather than double. The matthiolas did very well in Adelaide mid-summer which is surprising. I thought they be long gone by summer end but the double has been really persistant until now since it does not produce seed pods they have more longevity, no worries or energy spend to reproduce. But the single petals one will soon die if they have spent all their blooms and complete produce seed pods as they have reproduce. The next cycle continues with the seeds I guess.
